Resort information for Hawaii

Hawaii, the namesake of the Hawaiian Islands, is also the largest member of the group, measuring about 95 miles long and 75 miles at its widest point, with around 266 miles of mostly rocky, jagged coastline – although a fair few good beaches can be found.

Roughly triangular in shape, the island offers remarkable contrasts with no fewer than 12 climate zones, ranging from barren deserts to rainforest; on the lush E coast, the rain can fall in a torrential deluge, with rainy days averaging 278 a year, while the Kau Desert in the S gets no rain at all.

The island brims with natural splendour and remote scenic spots, even though agriculture is big business here; its high-quality Kona coffee is world famous and there are abundant fruit groves as well as the biggest privately owned ranch in the US – 225,000-acre Parker Ranch in Waimea.

Hawaii is also home to the world’s most active volcano, Kilauea, and the world’s largest volcano, Mauna Loa, soaring 13,677 ft above sea level and the site of 10 astronomical observatories. The capital (and largest city) is laid-back Hilo on the E coast, a convenient tourist base that also boasts picturesque gardens, including the 30-acre Japanese-style Liliuokalani Gardens.

Most of the tourist accommodation, however, is situated along the W Kona-Kohala Coast. One of the most popular W-coast tourist areas is Kailua-Kona – part fishing village, part party town, and now mostly a shopping mecca whose main street follows a 2-ml stretch of historic waterfront.

Would you like to change something about this holiday?

You may choose to change your hotels as we have a large selection in the region. You may even shorten or extend your duration of stay. If you fancy mixing up the hotels before and after your cruise, or even remove the stay element altogether, we can also look into this.

Other things such as special requests, local tours, upgrading/changing your flights, booking private transfers or any other arrangement would be subject to change, availability and quoted accordingly to you.

Families and cabin sharing options

On most cruises we can offer you the option of interconnecting or non interconnecting cabins, which are capable of accommodating between three or four people. For family cabins or larger rooms which can hold more than four people, please call to check availability.

Due to the popularity of these options they are subject to availability and we recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment. Subject to terms and conditions a discount may be offered for the extra passengers in the cabin. Please contact us for further information and pricing.

Cruise itinerary and visiting ports of call

In most ports of call you will be offered tenders, excursions, leisure activities and wherever possible the choice to do your own thing within the allotted time period. You will have a good chance to look around and enjoy the sites and maybe even indulge in some local activities. You may just prefer to stay on board which is fine as the ship will still operate all its facilities as normal.

If you decide to book excursions they will vary in cost depending on what you do and their duration. There is usually a varied selection to suit everyone needs and budget. We are happy to provide you with some examples of the kinds of things on offer if you need some more information.

Most cruise operators will allow you to pre-book excursions, which is advisable to ensure your place. If you prefer not to, and would like to decide later, you can generally book excursions aboard ships at their information desks.
